Year 4, started their new topic, Back to School. They revised some year 3 French and read a poem, using a French English dictionary to find out the meaning of a few words.
Year 4 have been busy writing their own descriptions of Fenrir - the villainous character in Arthur and the Golden Rope. They have had to think carefully about how to describe him to portray the evil nature of him and his horrible looks. Using AI and their descriptions, we’ve had a few gruesome portraits created! Here is a small selection of their final descriptions and some AI generated pictures! (The children loved this part!)
This week in History, Holly and Maple Classes learnt about mummification. “Despite it being gruesome, it was interesting and fun,” one of the children said! They learnt about the process and then had a go at their own - by mummifying tomatoes! We have to wait a while now for the process to begin so watch this space….!
This week in maths we have been looking at rounding. Rounding is a skill that we use in daily life without even knowing, so it was important for us to get to grips with the concept. Once we had discussed the importance of the number 5 and how it can tells us what we have to do when rounding, the children were off to work!
Today, the children defined what a National Park is. It is a wide area that is protected for people/animals to use. Using an atlas, the children identified the 15 National Parks in the United Kingdom. Using their maps they could see that The New Forest is our nearest National Park. The children labelled their maps and began to understand that many people visit these places every year and some of the children have visited The Lake District.
This term, Elm Class are studying The United Kingdom. They began by identifying their new journey and the next 6 lessons. Their first lesson was to identify different regions in the United Kingdom. To help them visualise what an area is the children used a map of the school grounds to identify the different regions/areas they know. Finally, they identified the different regions in the United Kingdom and that they live in the South East region.
