Year 4 have been reviewing and building upon their hockey knowledge and skills, further expanding their understanding by exploring different types of hockey, not just field hockey but indoor and Ice (Minus the snow). Students have been developing their techniques and applying them in a range of game-based activities. Including being umpires during the games, expanding their understanding.  In gymnastics, students have explored new ways of using equipment to enhance their routines, with a particular focus on floor work this week. They have been learning how to create smooth, flowing transitions between balances and how to adapt and develop these balances creatively within their routines.

PSHE - What Makes You You

This week Year 4 had a virtual workshop with Julia and Harold from SCARF We played a game that helped highlight the fact that although we are all different, there is always something that we have in common with someone else. That we are all unique. We looked at what Marcus Rashford, Ellie Simmonds and Hamzin Yassin have in common - there was a lot of things including they all do voluntary work or work with vulnerable groups and they have all received an MBE.  We discussed what self-esteem is and what things we can do to make us feel better about ourselves. There was a lot of very useful discussions and lots of ideas being shared.

Year 4 - Spring Term - Gymnastics & Hockey

Year 4 have shown great enthusiasm and clear progression this week, particularly in hockey. Students were given the exciting opportunity to try indoor hockey, which allowed them to use rebound boards to control and redirect the ball. This encouraged them to think creatively and tactically in a more tactile setting. Lessons also focused on developing shooting technique, with students learning the importance of leaning into their shots and looking for clear opportunities to shoot during play. In gymnastics, students have progressed to using a wider range of equipment to further develop their travelling movements, leaps, rolls and balances. This has enabled Year 4 to become increasingly creative when choreographing their routines, which they confidently performed in front of their peers. In addition, some classes were fortunate to take part in dance lessons led by a guest this week, providing an exciting opportunity to explore movement in a different and engaging way.

How have animals and plants adapted to live in a desert?

What a fabulous lesson using Colin the cactus to help us understand the features cacti have to live in the desert.  From there, the children looked at how a camel has adapted.
