This week has marked the commencement of this term’s curriculum focus on Basketball and Athletics, encompassing both indoor and outdoor activities.
In Athletics, the primary objective has been to develop students running techniques while simultaneously fostering effective teamwork. Learning experiences have been structured to promote collective morale, with an emphasis on mutual encouragement and peer support. Through collaborative exercises and relay activities, pupils have demonstrated growing confidence in both their physical capabilities and their ability to work cohesively as part of a team.
In Basketball, the focus has been on consolidating core technical skills, beginning with correct ball handling, grip, and control. Students have subsequently progressed to developing effective communication strategies during game-play, particularly when identifying and passing to an open teammate (The receiver). This has enabled them to refine their spatial awareness and understanding of tactical movement within the game.
Overall, this week has provided a measured and purposeful introduction to both curriculum areas. Alongside the focused skill development, pupils have also participated in a series of engaging brain breaks, designed to support cognitive engagement, individual growth, and the continued development of cooperative team-building skills.
