Year 4 - Spring Term - Gymnastics & Hockey

This week, Year 4 have been focusing on the new curriculum areas of gymnastics and hockey.

In gymnastics, students have been developing their balancing skills by holding a variety of shapes using one, two or three points of contact with their bodies. They have been encouraged to think carefully about control and stability, and to challenge themselves by maintaining balances for longer periods of time. Some pupils also had the opportunity to use a range of gymnastics equipment, where they demonstrated strong core motor skills and explored different ways of travelling safely and confidently from one piece of equipment to another. In addition, they experimented with a variety of holds both on and off the apparatus, including balances performed in the air.

In hockey, the focus was on developing fundamental skills, including correct stick control and the positioning of hands and feet. Students practised stopping the ball effectively and using controlled push passes to send the ball accurately to a teammate. These activities helped to build confidence, coordination and teamwork, while reinforcing the importance of control and spatial awareness during game play.
