Year 4 - Spring Term - Gymnastics & Hockey
Year 4 have demonstrated excellent resilience and a positive attitude towards their learning this week, despite a number of challenges impacting their PE lessons. Unfavourable weather conditions, Year 6 SATs and other timetable pressures meant that some sessions had to be adapted; however, students approached these changes with enthusiasm and determination.
Continuing their focus on gymnastics, Year 4 have been revisiting and further developing the key fundamental skills. Students have practised holding a range of balances using different points of contact with the floor, while also challenging themselves with more complex individual and group balances and using equipment. There has been a strong emphasis on creativity, with pupils working to develop their own sequences and choreography. They have considered transitions, presentation and overall flow in order to create a polished performance.
Alongside gymnastics, Year 4 have also been focusing on hockey. Students have been developing their ball control skills and learning how to handle the stick correctly and safely. They have practised passing accurately and worked on effective communication within a team, using appropriate hockey terminology to support game play.
Students also adapted well by taking part in a variety of classroom-based activities, including ‘air hockey’, yoga and other movement-based exercises, ensuring they remained active and focused on developing their physical skills.
