As we have progressed through the spring term, with a focus on tennis and inclusive sport, the students have fully embraced the range of challenges, new activities, and variations of sport introduced to them. It has been particularly pleasing to see the progress made in tennis. Students have developed their fine motor skills, improved their hand-eye coordination, and shown a growing ability to apply tactical thinking within game situations. Their confidence and understanding of the sport have noticeably increased over the term. In addition to this, students have engaged positively with inclusive sports, demonstrating a strong willingness to adapt activities to ensure that everyone can participate. They have shown creativity and teamwork when exploring how sports can be made accessible for all, which has been a key focus of the term. Spring Term - Year 4 - Tennis & Inclusive Sports

Image
Following on with tennis this week, we have been building towards playing full rallies in singles, with some students also progressing to competing in doubles matches. We have continued to develop our understanding of inclusive sports. The students have had the opportunity to take part in football golf, variations of rounders, volleyball, and a range of other sports and activities, all designed to encourage participation, teamwork, and enjoyment for everyone. Overall, Year 4 have broadened their knowledge of sport and developed their understanding of different rules, tactics, and approaches. They have also expanded their perspectives, gaining a greater appreciation of how sports can be adapted to be inclusive and engaging for all.

We did our sticky knowledge which was copy the words in red  for example, de la dance 🕺. Then we chatted about our thoughts on different sports  for example, tu aime faire du velo bicycle 🚴 We also sang a song about different sports

Air Ambulance Workshop

Image
Alongside our mufti day for the Air Ambulance, Year 4 were chosen to have a workshop from the team to inform than more about what the service provides. We discovered that it cost approx £3500 each time the Air Ambulance is called out, that last year alone there were approx 170 calls to the island, and that one single pair of night vision goggles costs £18,000. Children learnt about the app What3Words and how this can give exact information of location, through role play they learnt how to call for and ask for an ambulance and the questions they might be asked, and how the air ambulance is scrambled and how they help.  There were a lot of thoughtful questions being asked - well done Year 4!

How have animals and plants adapted to live in the desert?

Image
What a fantastic lesson where the children recapped some of their Science vocabulary: habitat adaptation and climate.  The children then used their knowledge that all deserts are dry (arid) to think about what features animals and plants have to let them survive in such harsh environments.  Did you know?
