Spring Term - Year 4 - Tennis & Inclusive Sports

This week, Year 4 have been continuing to build their confidence in tennis by challenging themselves to improve both their fundamental skills and their overall understanding of the game.

The students have been working on developing key techniques such as controlling the ball, improving their coordination. They have been encouraged to challenge themselves, show determination, and apply the skills they have been practising with increasing confidence during activities. Alongside traditional tennis drills and games, some classes also had the opportunity to try a variation of the sport through table tennis, which helped them further develop their hand-eye coordination, reaction speed, and adaptability to different styles of play.

During netball, the focus has once again been on improving passing and encouraging students to think more strategically during game situations. The students have explored how to react to different scenarios that can occur during a match, such as when the ball rolls along the floor, and have discussed the best time to collect the ball in order to gain a better position or advantage for their team. As well as developing their passing and movement around the court, the students have also been learning more about the rules and structure of the game. A few students even volunteered to take on the role of umpire, helping to oversee games and guide their classmates, which supported their understanding of fair play, responsibility, and decision-making.

To make sure that all students felt included and actively involved, we also introduced a range of inclusive team activities, including games such as bench ball or variations of rounders. These sessions provided opportunities for everyone to take part, work collaboratively, and strengthen their communication and teamwork skills in a positive and supportive setting.

Overall, Year 4 have demonstrated excellent resilience and enthusiasm throughout the week. The students have responded positively to new challenges, shown a willingness to learn, and continued to grow in confidence as they develop both their knowledge and practical skills within the different sports we have been exploring.
